Half of Welsh councils outsource swimming pools and gyms

Half of Welsh local authorities have handed over the running of swimming pools and gyms to outside organisations, BBC Wales research has shown.

Many councils see outsourcing as their best - or only - option to keep leisure centres open while dealing with budget cuts.

But opponents said this was simply passing the buck.
