Have snow and ice taken their toll on retailers?

Retailers have been badly hit by the snow and freezing temperatures and many are already totting up the damage.

Nevertheless, some analysts are predicting that 23 December could be the busiest shopping day of the year.

The BBC's chief economics correspondent Hugh Pym reports.
