Why has the US trade deficit ballooned?
Figures from the commerce department on Friday are expected to show America's trade deficit growing.
It is the opposite of the drive to boost exports.
But the biggest culprit is likely to be the higher cost of imported oil - which went up 3.9% in December from the prior month - and imports from China.
