World's biggest miner BHP posts record $10.5bn profits

The world's biggest mining firm BHP Billiton has made record half-year profits thanks to strong demand and high prices.

It earned more than $10bn in the final six months of last year, up more than 70%.

Profits from iron ore nearly tripled and copper profits were up 45%.

In fact, BHP Billiton is so cash rich it is returning most of that money to investors in the form of a share buy-back scheme.

Maleen Saeed reports.
