Complaints against estate agents 'unacceptably' high
Complaints against estate agents are "unacceptably" high says the Property Ombudsman after he handled a record level of disputes during 2010.
Christopher Hamer received 1,338 new referrals against property professionals during the year. That is the highest level recorded since the scheme was set up 20 years ago, and 28% above the previous peak reached in 2008.
He told the BBC he can make an award of up to £25,000 if the complainant is found to have been disadvantaged.
