Christine Lagarde 'would reach out to all'

Christine Lagarde has described herself as "an international animal" as she announced her candidacy for the head of the International Monetary Fund.

The French finance minister said she would bring experience and leadership, and that as a woman she would bring a new dimension and "reach out to all".

Ms Lagarde had been an early favourite to replace Dominique Strauss-Kahn, who resigned last week to fight sex-assault allegations in New York.
