British Gas fined £2.5m for mishandling complaints
Energy giant British Gas has been fined £2.5m by the energy watchdog for failing to deal with complaints correctly.
Ofgem found that British Gas, which serves nearly half of the UK's households, failed to re-open cases when customers indicated their complaint had not been resolved.
The fine is the largest ever handed out to an energy company over customer service.
Sarah Harrison from Ofgem told the BBC the fine was proportionate to the evidence gathered.
