China's inflation rate expected to 'remain high'

The slight fall in China's inflation rate in September is unlikely to indicate a downward trend, says Sanjay Mathur, an analyst at RBS.

High food prices, and an expected rise in wages for several years to come, will keep an upward pressure on inflation, he said.

It means that there is little scope for Beijing to cut interest rates.
