Think-tank calls for regulation in lettings market
The Resolution Foundation think-tank says tenants are being let down by variable administrative fees and high upfront costs.
The group, which represents people on low to middle incomes, is calling for letting agencies to be regulated in the same way as estate agents.
The Association of Residential Lettings Agents told the BBC that its members have strict codes of conduct and that there are already protection mechanisms in place.
James Plunkett from the Resolution Foundation spoke to Radio 5 live Wake Up To Money.
Wake Up To Money broadcasts weekdays 0530 to 0600 on Radio 5 live.
