Electric car industry stays hopeful despite poor sales

Electric cars like the Nissan Leaf and GM's Chevy Volt were hailed as the new dawn of driving.

But last year they sold under 18,000 models in the US - barely a 1% share of the world's biggest auto market.

Despite this, the industry still believes electric is the way forward.
