Investors are bracing themselves for the year's first real test of demand for debt as Spain and Italy prepare to auction bonds.

Between them they hope to sell as much as €17bn worth of debt.

Italy's new Prime Minister, Mario Monti is urging investors to reward Italy for its austerity efforts.
