Japan trade deficit 'until 2014' warns Takuji Okubo

Japan has announced its first annual trade deficit since 1980. The deficit in 2011 was $32bn, largely because of the combined effects of last year's tsunami, a strong yen and high fuel costs.

However, some warn that Japan faces a trade deficit for years to come because of more deeply-ingrained problems in its economy. Takuji Okubo of Societe Generale in Tokyo thinks the deficit is likely to run until 2014.
