Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls: GDP figures are terrible
Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls has attacked the government's economic policies after it emerged that UK GDP fell by 0.2% in the final three months of last year.
Speaking to the BBC, Mr Balls described the news as "terrible" and suggested the chancellor should "change course now".
The data, from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), shows a sharp drop in economic activity from the third quarter of 2011, when gross domestic product (GDP) expanded by 0.6%.
