'We need an effective hub', says Virgin Atlantic boss

The Department for Transport has published its Aviation Policy Framework which includes some measures to increase capacity in the short term.

However, despite increasing calls from business leaders, including Willie Walsh and Richard Branson, for the government to commit to plans to increase airport capacity and maintain the UK's hub status, it remains unclear how that might be achieved.

Steve Ridgeway, chief executive of Virgin Atlantic told the BBC "we are the sixth largest trading nation in the world and it is essential we are connected to all those points in the world."
