Thomas Cook to cut 2,500 jobs in UK

The world's oldest travel firm Thomas Cook has announced plans to cut around 2,500 jobs in the UK and close nearly 200 high street travel agencies.

Most of the job losses will come from its "back-office functions and its retail network", it said.

The BBC's Business Correspondent Emma Simpson says this is the latest blow for a high street already feeling the effects of the economic downturn.
