John Lewis took 'brave decisions'

It has been a tough year for many retailers - such as HMV, Jessops, Blockbuster and Republic.

But one chain that has bucked that trend is John Lewis.

It has been named Retailer of the Year and gave its staff a bonus of 16% of their salary.

However, it has recently been accused of abusing its supply chain by demanding a rebate from some suppliers.

Managing director of John Lewis Andy Street joins told the Today programme: "The business has taken some brave decisions, has anticipated changing customer needs, it's got ahead of the multi-channel revolution, and has looked after development of products."

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Friday 15 March 2013.
