SSE says sorry after record Ofgem fine for mis-selling

Ofgem has fined the energy company, SSE, a record £10.5m for mis-selling.

The regulator says the fine reflects "prolonged and extensive" failure to provide customers with clear and accurate information on prices and potential savings.

The firm stopped doorstep sales in 2011, but Ofgem says its failures continued after that in telephone and in-store sales.

Speaking to the Today programme's John Humphrys, Alan Young, managing director of corporate affairs at SSE said that "we are very sorry about the breaches that occurred... and we do want to apologise".

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Tuesday 2 April 2013.
