For millions of workers living in the Gulf and working at the bottom of the career ladder, prospects for promotion can be scarce.

Training is thin on the ground and English is almost always a pre-requisite for those wishing to advance their careers.

There are some education programmes aimed at helping ambitious workers but will companies be convinced of their merits?
