Hot summer brings shoppers back to the high street

We have been warned that high streets are dying - with more and more retailers shutting up shop as shoppers choose to buy online.

But the British Retail Consortium has found that footfall on the high street actually rose by 2.3% last month, with the hot weather and an improvement in the public mood boosting sales.

BRC Director General Helen Dickenson told BBC Radio 5 live's Wake Up to Money: "I don't think the high street is dead - it's trying to reinvent itself for how we shop today."
