The Bank of England may launch plastic banknotes by 2016

The Bank of England may launch plastic banknotes in the UK by 2016.

The banknotes are made of polymer and are reportedly more secure against fraud, more environmentally friendly and can withstand a cycle in the washing machine.

The BBC's Hugh Pym spoke to the Bank of England's Executive Director for Banking Services, Chris Salmon about the notes.
