Lord Deighton: £1.9bn road investment is 'critical'

British roads are to receive a £1.9bn investment in 2014, transport minister Robert Goodwill has announced.

It is expected that the work will create 9,500 construction jobs.

Lord Deighton, commercial secretary to the Treasury, believes that the investment is "absolutely critical" for the UK.

He told BBC Radio 5 live's Breakfast: "You get the benefit of the immediate impetus from the building and then of course you get the long term benefit of having road capacity that really supports the growth the economy."
