Energy firms 'need customer details' to refund

Energy companies are unable to "refund" customers who have credit sitting in their old accounts because their address and bank details are not known, Energy UK chief executive Angela Knight has said.

Ms Knight said customers should get in touch with their old suppliers if they believe they are owed money.

Her comments come after the "big six" energy firms were told to hand back more than £400m to customers who lost out after switching company or moving house without passing on their new details to their former supplier.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Friday 28 February.
