HMRC tax plans have 'robust safeguards' in place
Plans to allow HM Revenue and Customs to seize unpaid taxes from people's bank accounts have "robust safeguards" in place, a leading accountant has said.
Chas Roy-Chowdhury, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), initially gave evidence to the Select Committee opposing the move.
However, after viewing the consultant paper, he said ACCA's concerns about the plan, such as money being taken from joint accounts, had been taken into consideration.
Mr Roy-Chowdhury told BBC Radio 5 live's Wake Up to Money: "It probably is the right way forward but we need to make sure its balanced, proportionate, and it actually works fairly."
