The toughest cop on Wall Street
Benjamin Lawsky, Superintendent of the New York State Department of Financial Services, is known as "the toughest cop on Wall Street".
He is behind a series of record-breaking fines on some of the world's biggest banks, most recently hitting French bank BNP Paribas with an $8.9bn fine for breaking US sanctions against Iran and others.
Swiss rival Credit Suisse also had to pay out $2.6bn after admitting helping Americans to dodge taxes.
BBC's Michelle Fleury met the man behind the busts.
