RMT criticises East Coast mainline franchise decision
The National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) has criticised the government's decision to award the contract to run the East Coast mainline to a consortium made up of Stagecoach and Virgin.
The group has won the eight year franchise to run the line, which has been state-controlled since National Express pulled out of the contract in 2009.
Steve Hedley, assistant general secretary of the RMT, said taxpayers would lose out.
