India moves to shield drug production

India has the third largest pharmaceutical industry in the world in terms of production.

But 80% of the raw materials required to make the drugs are imported from China.

The government is worried that any dispute with the mainland could lead to India running out of essential drugs.

That is a scenario it is determined to avoid.
