Education Secretary Michael Gove on tackling poor teachers
Ministers have announced that new rules which will allow head teachers in England to sack underperforming teachers much more quickly.
The formal stages of warning a member of staff, and then monitoring and reviewing their performance prior to dismissal, will be achievable in a term rather than a year.
Unions say some teachers may not get a fair hearing, but Education Secretary Michael Gove has said dismissal will be a last resort.
