LIVE: David Cameron education speech

David Cameron is setting out the Conservatives' agenda for school improvements after the general election.

Speaking in north London, the prime minister is expected to announce that thousands more schools could be taken over by academy chains if his party wins May's vote.

Mr Cameron will say any school rated as "requires improvement" by government inspectors - currently about 3,500 schools - will be forced to become an academy unless it can show a clear plan for rapid improvement.
