Who is is the running for Oscars glory?

The final countdown to the Oscars has begun, with Martin Scorsese's 3D family film Hugo leading the race to win best film and best director.

Silent French film, The Artist, has 10 nominations in total and is seen as the favourite to take the coveted best picture prize.

George Clooney and Brad Pitt are contenders for best actor, and Meryl Streep has her 17th Oscar nomination for her portrayal of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady.
