Oscars 2012: Big winners at the 84th Academy Awards

Silent movie The Artist has won best picture, best director for Michel Hazanavicius and best actor for Jean Dujardin at the Oscars.

Meryl Streep won best actress for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady - her 17th Oscar nomination.

Meanwhile Christopher Plummer became the oldest Oscar winner at 82 for his performance in Beginners and The Help's Octavia Spencer won the best supporting actress Oscar.
