James Hunt's former lover knew nothing of Lauda rivalry

The former lover of Formula 1 driver James Hunt has admitted that she knew nothing of his famous rivalry with Austrian Niki Lauda whilst they were together.

Artist Helen Dyson, who was Hunt's partner for five years before his death in 1993, told BBC Radio 5 live's Richard Bacon: "Motor racing wasn't really in our lives... he used to sort of see himself as retired."

"When I met him and asked him what he did on our first date he said he bred budgies."
