Sir John Standing: O'Toole was a 'wonderful actor'
Peter O'Toole, the star of the 1962 classic Lawrence of Arabia, has died aged 81.
The actor Sir John Standing, who knew O'Toole for over 40 years, told the Today programme that he was "the most generous, wildest, funniest, kindest man".
Mr Standing also explained that O'Toole's qualities went far beyond his good looks.
"His looks don't really matter… he was a wonderful actor, he was a great raconteur, he was intelligent."
He added that as well as his "stunning" performance in Lawrence of Arabia, O'Toole was a great comedy actor.
"All he ever wanted to do was make people laugh," he said.
