Frank Sidebottom: Reality vs fiction

During his heyday in the 1980s and 90s, the papier mache-headed musician Frank Sidebottom was a regular fixture on British television and radio.

A new film starring Michael Fassbender uses Chris Sievey's character as inspiration, relocating the story from Timperley in northern England to the city of Bluff in the US state of Kansas.

The creative team behind Frank insist that they avoided making a straight biopic because "the reality of Sievey would undermine the mystery of Sidebottom."

To see the difference between the two characters, compare a clip of Frank Sidebottom appearing on BBC One's Pebble Mill show in 1994 with the trailer for Frank.
