Meet the author: Linda Spalding

Linda Spalding's fourth novel, The Purchase, is already an award-winner, scooping Canada's top literature prize, but was only published in the UK this year.

It centres on a Quaker and ancestor of the author, whose decision to buy a slave in Virginia in the early 19th century, has repercussions for his family throughout the generations.

Linda Spalding spoke to the BBC's Nick Higham.
