Rule change 'discriminates against same-sex dance partners'
The British Dance Council is planning to introduce a rule that defines a dance partnership as "one man and one lady... unless otherwise stated".
Heather Devine, current European Same-Sex Senior Women's Champion alongside her partner Chrisi Lyons, warned that this ruling could prevent same-sex partners from competing unless competition organisers allow them to enter.
She added that this amounted to "condoning discriminatory behaviour".
But British Dance Council president Bryan Allen said that the rule had been misunderstood, and that the organisation has a "strict policy" of promoting equality.
