'Hippie crack' inspires exhibition

Gilbert and George turn to a funny source of inspiration for their latest exhibition: nitrous oxide, or laughing gas.

Gilbert and George have turned to a funny source of inspiration for their latest exhibition: nitrous oxide, or laughing gas.

It is a legal high popular with clubbers and is also known as "hippie crack".

The artists were not using the gas itself but collected the distinctive bomb-shaped empty canisters they found near their home in east London.

The cylinders feature heavily in their latest works, called Scapegoating, at the White Cube gallery.

Newsnight's Stephen Smith joined them for a spot of street combing on Brick Lane.
