Can sad music make you feel happy?
Researchers from Durham University say listening to sad music doesn't only trigger pain and sadness - it can also provide comfort and even enjoyment. A high number of people they surveyed were cheered up by listening to supposedly sad songs.
Simon Proctor from music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins said: “As human beings we like to feel things when we are moved”.
Though the feeling may not be exactly the same as happiness, it may be the ability to cope with the sadness that gives the feeling of comfort.
