Is E. coli salad scare nearing an end?

German clinics have appealed for blood donations as the number of people infected with a deadly strain of E. coli has risen above 1,730.

Nearly 200 new cases have been reported in two days. The bug has killed 17 people in Germany and one died Sweden.

A total of 12 countries have reported people falling ill with the bug, including, for the first time, the United States.
