Historic psychiatric hospital demolished

The last remaining part of what was the largest complex of psychiatric hospitals in Britain, is being demolished.

Most of West Park Hospital, part of the "Epsom Cluster" of hospitals in Surrey, is being cleared to make room for new housing.

The central water tower and some buildings will be retained.

Here, Jeremy Harte, curator of Bourne Hall Museum in Ewell, describes the rise and fall of West Park Hospital.
