Britain may be a world leader in drug discovery but thousands of research scientists have lost their jobs in the past year.
The recession and global market changes have caused big pharmaceutical companies to move their research operations overseas.
But from the ashes of laboratory closures, new biotec businesses are starting up and creating jobs and reasons for the talent to stay.
