Stem cells used to 'heal' heart attack scars

Scar tissue caused by a heart attack has been healed using stem cells gathered from the patient's own heart, according to doctors in the US.

Twenty five people were involved in a trial which inserted the stem cells directly into the arteries, halving the amount of scar tissue.

Dr Iqbal Malik, a consultant cardiologist at Hammersmith Hospital in London, said more extensive research was needed.
