NICE approves eye drug for diabetes sufferers
Thousands of people with a devastating eye condition could be offered a potentially sight-saving treatment following a U-turn by the health watchdog.
In 2011 the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence refused to make Lucentis available on the NHS because it was too expensive.
But NICE has now reversed its decision for some sufferers.
Baroness Young, Chief Executive of Diabetes UK, said 25,000 people could now benefit from the treatment being available on the NHS.
