Spending on A&E locum doctors 'out of control' - Andy Burnham

Spending on locum doctors to plug the gaps in A&E units in England has risen by 60% in three years, figures show.

Figures obtained by Labour under the Freedom of Information Act showed spending on temporary staff in casualty units has risen by 60% to more than £80m a year.

Shadow health secretary Andy Burnham claimed that the rise in spending was linked to the coalition government's reorganisation of the NHS.
