British feet are now two sizes larger than in 1970s

British feet have increased by two shoe sizes in the last four decades, according to experts.

Research by the College of Podiatry found the average male foot size had grown from a size eight to 10.

The average female size was now a size six versus a four in the 1970s.

Matthew Fitzpatrick, a podiatrist from the college, said the increase could be linked to the population's increased weight and height.

He told BBC Radio 5 live's Breakfast: "Our feet are getting bigger, but maybe as a nation we're also getting a little bit bigger as well."
