'New care home scheme can work' says Sir Mike Richards

A system of special measures designed to improve failing hospitals in England can also work in care homes, the chief inspector of hospitals has said.

Sir Mike Richards said the scheme, which was introduced by the Care Quality Commission a year ago at 11 failing hospital trusts, would "give the care homes the support they need to turn around quickly".
