Action on suicide: Why I tried to take my own life

The government is calling for a fundamental overhaul of how the NHS tackles suicides.

Deputy PM Nick Clegg says many suicides are preventable and wants hospitals to aim to end all such deaths.

Iris has tried to take her own life on several occasions and also has a history of self harming.

She told the BBC's Michael Buchanan that her suicidal thoughts were brought on by desperation, fear and a sense of shame.
