Warnings given before killing spree

Recently a police officer was shot dead in the Brazilian city of Belem. Within a few hours, messages supposedly from other police officers were being shared on Facebook and Twitter warning people to stay inside in certain neighbourhoods. There was also an audio message being shared on chat apps such as WhatsApp. Later that night, 10 people were murdered.

Camilla Costa, a BBC journalist based in Sao Paulo, speaks to a scared university student who received an audio message through WhatsApp saying that 'police officers' would 'clean' the area.
