Forests vital to local community

Ancient woodland in England will be kept out of the hands of commercial operators, the government has promised.

At the launch of a 10-week public consultation on proposals to lease England's publicly-owned forests, ministers said they would prefer the private sector to take over ownership of the land.

Laura Bicker visited Whinlatter Forest Park in Cumbria to learn how the sell-off could affect people who use the woodland.
