How to build a house out of straw

The first straw houses to be offered on the open market in the UK go on sale this month.

And though straw walls might be something most readily associated with a story of pigs making questionable construction choices, the team behind these homes say the material could help meet housing demand.

The homes are the result of an engineering research project led by the University of Bath.

The researchers worked with a specialist design firm.

Project leader Craig White showed BBC science and environment reporter Victoria Gill the straw bale construction in the walls of the new homes.
