Insect icon: Peppered moth mystery solved

Scientists at the University of Liverpool have discovered the genetic secrets of one of science's most famous insects.

The British peppered moth changed colour during the industrial revolution - turning black in order to be camouflaged against soot-stained surfaces.

Now a team of researchers has found the genetic reason for its transformation.
